The very act of drawing an object, however badly, swiftly takes the drawer from a woolly sense of what the object looks like to a precise awareness of its component parts and particularities. - Alain de Botton

Value drawings are one of the artist's best friends. - Harley Brown

It is often said that Leonardo drew so well because he knew about things; it is truer to say that he knew about things because he drew so well. - Kenneth Clark

I think everyone should draw. Everyone should get a cool sketchbook, take it with them everywhere and draw stuff. Drawing slows the mind down and helps us think clearly. We can all use time to regroup and energize our minds. Drawing does that. When we draw, we are forces to really look at whatever we’re drawing. We turn off the part of the brain that labels and talks loudly to us and we get completely engrosses in the task at hand. Quieting the mind helps bring harmony to our lives.

Also a great book to get you started is Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards.
